Early Morning Kirk Yard

Ever since the vandalism at the Old Kirk Yard Cemetery in Attleboro, I've been shooting there more and more often. I'm going to try and capture as many shots here as possible, on the off chance the vandals return for a third time and continue to damage the historic markers. This trip I tried to focus on details and shadows.
*These shots are for Sarah Mascarah. Without her kick in the ass, I'd have never gotten out of bed to take this set. Thanks dude.*

  1. I love old, decaying tombstones. There is something tragic about the way that they are places as a memorial to those who have died so their memory will live on, but even the tombstones don’t last forever. Nicely captured!

  2. Beautiful photgraphy (this and other series you have shot). Cemeteries can live on longer with a preservation. We are a professional company that preserves pioneer cemeteries. Take your photos to those who can do some thing about the condition of the cemeteries. There is always someone responsible for them, whether they do their job of preserving them or not. In Indiana, the township trustees are really starting to see the need and picking up where their predecessors should have been 30 years ago. Kentucky has a Cemetery Commission attached tot he Fiscal Court of every county. Someone is in charge. ALso go to your Department of Natural Resources, they will be connected with the Dept of the Interior. The laws all changed a few years ago. They can steer you in the right direction. 3. Thanks!

The historic cemeteries around my area(Attleboro, MA) have been neglected for years. People have lobbied to change it, but somehow, it's still pushed to the back burner.
The city has made it so volunteers can adopt historic cemeteries to help upkeep them, but still a lot are in disrepair.
